DEVELOPMENTS
- CHRIS JERICHO and the YOUNG BUCKS were out by the water earlier today by a lighthouse. Jericho apologizes for beating their dads' ass but also says he deserved it. He says he's honored to be partnering with them and then they can't agree on a team name. Matt thinks it should be "The Bucks of Jericho" and Chris thinks it should be "Y2Jackson." They settle on "2 Teams, 1 Name."
- Andrade kicks out of a BTE Trigger so the Bucks set up for a Meltzer Driver. Aubrey Edwards is distracted by the apron, though, and CLARK CONNORS runs in and wipes Nick Jackson off the apron. DAVID FINLAY clobbers Matt with the shillelagh and Andrade falls on top of him to get the pinfall.
- TOA LIONA and BISHOP KAUN come in to beat down the babyface team so JUNGLE JACK PERRY comes out with a bag of onions and clubs Toa across the head with it. This still isn't enough reinforcements so the HURT SYNDICATE are here to even the numbers. On Sunday: the Stadium Stampede.
- DARBY ALLIN backstage with Renee Paquette. Renee asks him why he keeps taking these matches. Darby says he feels everything. People ask him "why every week?" and he says he has no choice. When Max loses his hair, it's going to eat him alive, he says. He addresses Speedball, saying he'll do anything it takes to keep holding onto that belt and he wants Bailey to do the same.
- Mark Briscoe brings a trash can laden with weapons out for this Anything Goes affair with Tommaso Ciampa, and that's how you know we've got a real hardcore-style bout on our hands.
- Ciampa at one point early on goes digging under the ring, retrieves another trash can, and digs down inside it. He pulls his hand out revealing a rat trap that has snapped onto him. Briscoe dropkicks him through the ropes and breaks a mop handle over his head; Ciampa is cursing him out this entire time.
- Mark sets Tommaso up on a table at ringside and chokes him with a chain before going up top for presumably a Froggy Bow; Ciampa cuts him off and wraps the chain around his neck before doing the MJF-Hangman spot off the top through the table.
- Tommaso has now produced a cheese grater and is using it on Mark's forehead. Briscoe is opened up big style.
- During international time, Ciampa introduces a stuffed chicken into the match. The crowd is pissed when he delivers several chairshots to it, uses the cheese grater on it, then hits Project Ciampa on it. He covers it and Rick Knox gives him a two count but Mark Briscoe pulls Knox out of the ring. PWG never die
- Briscoe's at a solid 0.6 on the Muta Scale. He tanks a cookie sheet to the forehead and fights back before getting Ciampa with an exploder suplex. Mark has now produced several small spools of barbed wire and a staple gun which he uses to staple the wire to a table. Ciampa eventually cuts him off just so he can continue stapling the wire to the table before stapling multiple pages of commentary's note sheets to Briscoe's forehead.
- Back in the ring, Ciampa has produced a kneepad with a full layer of tacks on it. He goes for his knee strike but Briscoe gets him with a drop toe hold into a ladder that's been set up in the corner. Mark then stabs the fuck out of Tommaso with a screwdriver. Both men are now sufficiently gushing blood. Briscoe wants a DVD into the ladder but Ciampa counters out and hits a vertical suplex through it. That gets a 2-count.
- Ciampa hits the running knee with the tacks. He thinks about a cover but instead decides to try for the Psycho Driller off the top onto two chairs facing each other. Briscoe escapes and turns the chairs around so they're back-to-back before getting Ciampa with an Iconoclasm onto the chairs and he takes it like shit and dies. While he's selling, he feeds to the apron, so Mark says fuck it and hits the Jay Driller off the apron through the barbed wire table. He throws Ciampa back in the ring, hits the Froggy Bow, and picks up the win.
- Tony Schiavone is in the ring to introduce SWERVE STRICKLAND ahead of his match with BANDIDO in the opening round of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at Double or Nothing, but PRINCE NANA cuts him off so he can do his own introduction instead.
- Swerve comes out but he gets jumped from behind by Bandido. They brawl in and around the ring for a while, but Bandido is on top for most of it. Swerve gets some heat in later on and wants to set up the Vertebreaker onto the chair like he hit on Supercard of Honor, but Bandido instead press slams him. He tries to set up the 21 Plex onto the chair; Swerve gets up and throws the chair at Bandido who deflects it and tries to charge Swerve with it. Strickland powders and leaves up the ramp with Nana as Bandido is left standing tall in the ring.
- WILLOW NIGHTINGALE backstage. She says winning the TBS title was one of the greatest moments of her career. She's won the Owen before, she's won the TBS title before this, and she became one half of the inaugural Women's Tag Team champions, but winning the TBS title back from Mercedes proved to herself that she was everything she could be. That's why, she says, she fought day in and day out against any challenger that stepped up--she felt that if she couldn't, she didn't deserve to be the champion.
- Willow says facing Red Velvet on Saturday, she injured her right shoulder. Much as she desperately wants to wrestle at Double or Nothing in front of her home crowd and her family and face Alex Windsor in the Owen and continue to defend the TBS title, she must withdraw from the tournament and relinquish the championship. "As sure as this smile remains on my face, I will be back. I don't know when, but I'll tell you this: I'm coming right back to the top." She leaves the title in a locker.
- A wild card will take her spot in the tournament, and that first match at Double or Nothing has been flexed to Athena-Shirakawa. Willow's second reign with the TBS title comes to an end at 10 successful defenses over 140 days.
- Jon Moxley is targeting Kyle O'Reilly ribs and midsection heavily here, to the point where when Kyle goes for a tope to Moxley on the floor, he's in too much pain to actually commit to the full run.
- These two go to war for the full 20-minute time limit. Both men desperately want to win this match. Down to about 40 seconds, Mox tries for a curbstomp off the ropes but Kyle evades and takes the ankle. Moxley's got no escape for the ankle lock, and the look on his face reflects his knowledge that even if he were to escape, he'd have no time to mount any kind of comeback offense to beat O'Reilly, which has been his goal since they butted heads late last year.
- It takes Moxley everything in him not to tap out as the clock expires, but for O'Reilly, the result is functionally as good as a victory. Arkady Aura announces that he's earned a match for the title, but Kyle takes the microphone from her and says that he didn't "survive" a damn thing--Moxley barely survived him. He's got a legitimate claim to the title--in their last four meetings he's now submitted Moxley to the ankle lock twice, won by disqualification once as Moxley realized he had no escape from the ankle lock, and now fought to a time limit draw in the ankle lock. KOR wants his match for the title at Double or Nothing, no time limit.
- Renee Paquette backstage with KRIS STATLANDER and HIKARU SHIDA. Kris is heartbroken for Willow and is trying to talk about it but Shida, who does not seem interested in talking about Nightingale, cuts her off. She says that on Sunday, she and her dear friend Kris Statlander fight for the world championship and they are so ready! Renee tells Kris she understands that Kris isn't cleared but she will be by Double or Nothing; Kris confirms that and is immediately cut off again by Shida who says they're not here tonight to fight, just to watch. "Our eyes [are] on the entire division, right, Kris?" Kris grabs her by the shoulder and tells her to watch herself before leaving.
- RUSH is backstage. He wants a shot at Darby's title next week on Wednesday if Darby survives Double or Nothing. He reads this entire promo, including his catchphrase, off a prompter.
- Towards the end of the 8-woman tag, Thekla and Thunder Rosa are legal. Thekla tries to go use the title belt on Rosa; Mike Posey stops her, and that distraction is enough time for Julia Hart to get Rosa with the black mist. Thekla schoolboys Rosa for the win.
- JETSPEED backstage. Speedball has a shot at the world title, and Kevin wants first dibs if they win it.
- JON MOXLEY backstage with Renee Paquette and the DEATH RIDERS. The boys are all doing push-ups, including Mox. Renee tells Mox that while Kyle O'Reilly didn't submit him, he did take him all the way to the time limit to earn a shot at the Continental title. She asks how things will be different for him on Sunday with no time limit.
- "You're acting like that should be some kind of moral victory. We don't do moral victories. We don't make up things to celebrate, and we don't sweat the small stuff. Thank you, Kyle O'Reilly. Thank you for everything you've done for me, for pushing me to be better, for driving me crazy because I can't find a way to beat you"..."giving me a chance to practice what I preach, to live as a champion, to act as a champion; win, lose, or draw, thank you. You've done something extraordinary, Kyle: you've tapped me out twice. Twice. What are the odds you think you can do it a third time? You rolled the dice tonight, and you won. Sunday... ain't it cute? You go Double or Nothing... what are your odds? I say, this time, the house finally wins."
- Another AEW World title Dynamite main event. MJF comes out and does his full entrance right before the bell is about to ring. He takes a seat at commentary.
- We're starting fast. Darby charges Speedball but gets laid out with a PK. Speedball gets a missile dropkick off the second and the corner Cyclone Kick. He goes up for Ultima Weapon but Darby feeds to the apron.
- Out of the break, Darby gets Speedball's foot trapped under the ring stairs. Once they're freed and limping back towards the ring, Allin wipes them out with a tope suicida. Back in the ring, Darby tries a springback Coffin Drop but gets anti-aired on a shotgun dropkick. Speedball hits the Cyclone Kick in the corner again but Darby rolls out of the way as they try the Ultima Weapon.
- Darby now hits the Coffin Drop off the top and makes a delayed cover but Max now gets up and grabs Speedball's foot and puts it on the rope. The break counts but for some reason Bryce Remsburg, who can tell exactly what Max just did, does not eject him from ringside. Instead KEVIN KNIGHT comes out to confront him.
- Speedball gets a PK on a seated Darby and hits the standing moonsault knee drop. They get a nasty thrust kick to send Darby into the corner but Darby slips out of an attempted Flamingo Driver. He gets them up for a second Scorpion Death Drop; Speedball drops low and rolls up Darby for a 2 count but Darby takes back over and when Speedball tries to kip up, Darby keeps his hold and hits the Death Drop.
- Darby takes the legs of Speedball and gets them into the Scorpion Death Lock; at Kevin Knight's urging, Speedball makes it to the ropes, but that prompts Darby to go up top and hit a Coffin Drop onto the raised lower back of Bailey and get them back into the Death Lock. It's wrenched all the way back, and close as Speedball is to the ropes, they have no choice but to give up.
- MJF is visibly frustrated as he leaves commentary and walks through the crowd, many of whom are taunting him now that the hair vs. title match is guaranteed at Double or Nothing. Kevin Knight cuts a promo in the ring saying how proud he is of Speedball and urging Darby to go on to Double or Nothing and take Max's hair. He says they'll be right there ready to get back to making runs for his title when he does.
- As Kevin and Speedball leave together, MJF sees an opening and charges back through the crowd to the ring and attacks Darby. He retrieves an electric razor from underneath the ring and goes to take it to the forehead of Darby. Darby catches his wrist and grounds him, trying to take the razor to Max's head but Friedman is able to escape.
- Ahead of WILL OSPREAY's match, we see him in the back with the DEATH RIDERS minus Jon Moxley and PAC. Claudio is putting Will's jacket on him and Danny hypes Will up. During Will's entrance, Renee tells us that Ospreay has termed his flying juji gatame "Death Ground," in reference to a conversation he had with Moxley about a month ago.
- In the final minutes of this bout, Ospreay hits a leaping forearm strike to the back of Shibata's neck before motioning for the Hidden Blade out of the corner. That gets interrupted by ANTHONY BOWENS arriving to grab Ospreay's ankle. The momentary distraction allows Shibata to get up and hit a Hidden Blade of his own for a 2 count.
- MARINA SHAFIR and CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI have arrived through the crowd to confront Bowens. Back in the ring, Ospreay tries for the OsCutter but Shibata blocks it. He goes to whip Ospreay towards referee Rick Knox, who cowers in the corner and gets his arms up to protect his head. Shibata, though, pulls Ospreay back and with Knox preoccupied, low blows him before forcing him to roll through and trying to get his own juji gatame locked in.
- Ospreay's able to keep his arm bent to prevent the cross armbreaker from reaching full extension and powerbombs Shibata out of a triangle choke. The Styles Clash and Hidden Blade combination secure him the pinfall victory.
- SAMOA JOE is now here on the stage after the match. Joe mocks Ospreay over the Death Riders' involvement in that match but says he didn't come out here for Will, just to ensure the safety of Bowens and Shibata "because that's what I do for my friend." He says it's unfortunate that Will made a choice not to be his friend, and at Double or Nothing, he'll make him suffer the consequences for it. He guarantees that at the end of their match on Sunday, he will have put Ospreay to sleep.
- Ospreay tells Joe not to go anywhere. "You insist that this is a nightmare situation. Let me tell you about my nightmare situation: Sunday morning"..."look at my phone, oh, mate, so many people are now doubting me. People are saying 'ah, before the injury, Will looked good. He's lost his physique; he hasn't got it anymore, he's lost too much weight'--yeah, no shit, I had a double fusion neck surgery. And ten years ago, that would've been it. The Aerial Assassin would've been dead. And for 20 years, Samoa Joe, these people have said 'Joe is gonna kill you'--bruv, how you gonna kill a guy that's already died in this bloody ring?"
- Will says he has a chance to fulfill the dream of every kid who grew up in his country by challenging for the world title at the biggest stadium in the nation. Bowens is covering his ears. "My nightmare died and it was in the hands of these men and Marina. They killed the old me, and they rebuilt me into a murderer, bruv, into a killer! Into what I've been this entire time: an assassin!"
- CAGE & COPE backstage. Cope says they met in 6th grade. "He had a ninja star," Cope says, and this has zero relevance to anything else he says this entire segment. "In talking, we both found out that we love wrestling. And we told ourselves we were gonna become tag team champions. High school, college, broke into the business together, we've done everything together. Hell, we even found out we were gonna have daughters six weeks apart. In an industry where you have to question what's real and what isn't, this [...] is real.
- "Tell you what, FTR, I want the best version on FTR because after you dropped my wife on her head, I need that best version of FTR to show up to this match on Sunday... because we want to beat the best FTR and make that FTR say 'I quit.'"
- Christian Cage says FTR have made some questionable choices, and he always says "when you're born, you look like your family, and when you die, you look like your choices."
- This main event is kind of nothing; given that they just ran a promo about how it's going to be a grudge match between FTR and Cage & Cope for the titles at Double or Nothing, the expectation is that the titles are absolutely not moving four days before that match. FTR hot start on Orange and try to get him up for the spike piledriver but Roddy wipes out Cash. Orange slips out and Dax tries to sunset flip him but Orange sits down and gets a near fall.
- Most of the rest of this match is FTR doing as much heel shit as possible, pulling out every ref distraction spot there is, and it goes three segments. It's really not that terribly engaging. Dax and Cash each kick out of several flash pins and the finish is Dax throwing Orange towards referee Paul Turner, who runs out of the way, and Stokely clocking Orange in the head with the watch he stole from Christian. It knocks Orange out and Dax pins him.
