DEVELOPMENTS

  • Some miscommunications within Divine Dominion in the early goings of the opening match. They're still able to defend the titles successfully.
  • The DON CALLIS FAMILY are killing jobbers backstage. Trent and Rocky bury Takeshita and talk about all the nice clothes Don got them. Everybody dies. Jake Something grunts.
  • Lee Moriarty and The Infantry get to ringside and IMMEDIATELY go over to Nigel and start talking shit. Nigel says "Keep talking; you ain't gonna bite." Alan Angels goes for a springboard crossbody and Shane punches his fucking head off.
  • Shane has a mic afterward. He says for years the Death Riders have been the most violent group in AEW; their reputation has preceded them, and they've been willing to go further than anyone else. Shane says that all of that changes right now because as of right now STP is the most violent group in the company. Shane calls out Jon Moxley and the Death Riders and then goes and sits on commentary. He is breathing hard as fuck straight into the mic without hitting the mute button.
    • Nigel really cannot give up on the idea that he both deserves a shot at the Men's Pure title and that he is almost certainly going to beat Lee for it.
    • PAC has Carlie grounded and goes up top. Shane Taylor gets on the apron to distract referee Stephon Smith as Trish pulls PAC's leg to crotch him. Christyan then gets on the other end of the apron to distract him as Trish gets in the ring with a chair to attack PAC; she's cut off by MARINA SHAFIR and they brawl to the floor.
    • PAC takes the chair and goes into a tug of war in the corner with the ref, allowing all of the Death Riders to run a train on Carlie. PAC runs the ropes and hits his clothesline before locking in the Brutalizer to get a verbal submission.
  • Ciampa uses the Walls of Jericho to submit BEEF and then refuses to give them up. He knees BEEF to the floor and then puts him back in the Walls, tells Tony Schiavone to bring him a mic, and demands Tony tell the crowd that he's better than Chris Jericho.
  • TRISH ADORA and SHANE TAYLOR are backstage. They have killed WHEELER YUTA. Unlucky. Shane wants Mox in his hometown of Cincinnati next week.
  • DAVID FINLAY runs in to attack Juice Robinson while Clark distracts Stephon Smith, but Juice ducks the shillelagh and wipes him out with a nasty forearm. He goes for The Juice is Loose on Clark but Clark fights out and sends him to the ropes; Finlay hits him in the back with the shillelagh and Clark spears him for the win.
  • We get some words from people who are aiming to qualify for Survival of the Fittest for the TBS Championship, including HIKARU SHIDA, KRIS STATLANDER, MINA SHIRAKAWA, HARLEY CAMERON, QUEEN AMINATA, and ZAYDA STEEL.
  • JON MOXLEY and MARINA SHAFIR are backstage. Mox notes that Shane has gone to extreme lengths to get what he has, including, in his words, "merking young Wheeler." Mox says maybe he would have done the same thing in Shane's position, but only if he was 100% certain. "Because Shane, what happens if, when you get there, Continental Championship match, mano y mano, you are not who you thought you were?"
  • THE DOGS are backstage and call out the Young Bucks. Finlay takes umbrage with the Bucks saying they're next in line for the tag titles. They're ready to face the Young Bucks in Cincinnati.
  • Lexy Nair backstage with the defending trios champs THE CONGLOMERATION plus TOMOHIRO ISHIIRPG VICE are here to mockingly congratulate them. Rocky challenges Orange to face Andrade on Dynamite because he's never beaten him. Orange says "how you know" and that annoys Rocky.
  • Persephone, still recovering from being misted by Julia Hart a few weeks back, is selling her eyes and vision pretty heavily in the early goings of the main event here.
    • It's a highly competitive bout; Persephone gets a lot of offense in, but is unable to execute anything to put Hazuki away, namely her signature Razor's Edge. Hazuki hits several facebreakers but ultimately it's a La Magistral cradle that secures her victory; Persephone isn't even able to escape the pin after the 3 count.
    • Persephone and Hazuki shake hands and show respect to one another afterwards despite Persephone's intense frustration with her loss. Hazuki leaves up the ramp, and suddenly in the ring Persephone is attacked from behind by MERCEDES MONÉ, who's wielding the Owen championship belt that she left the arena on Wednesday with.
    • Mercedes puts Persephone in the Statement Maker and refuses to let go. That spurs Hazuki to run back down to make the save; Mercedes powders, but only for a moment as she turns around and now attacks Hazuki. Security pulls them apart before Hazuki dives from the ring onto Mercedes and the brawl is on once more.

DEVELOPMENTS

  • We get a cold open earlier today with Renee Paquette interviewing RUSH. RUSH says he would die in the ring if that's what it takes. He starts saying his catchphrase before MJF walks up, cuts him off, and slaps the SHIT out of him. RUSH double legs him and security has to pull them apart.
  • This match is happening first, and Renee, once again, is with RUSH. She says we just found out the match will have no countouts. ANDRADE EL ÍDOLO shows up to hype him up and tells him to take the title.
  • RUSH rips a turnbuckle pad off the top. He goes to throw MJF into the exposed turnbuckle and Bryce Remsburg gets in the way to prevent him. They argue for a moment before RUSH shoves Bryce out of the way; MJF proceeds to throw RUSH into it RUSH gigs off this.
    • Later on, Max tries to throw RUSH into it a second time, and once more, Bryce gets in the way. Turnabout is fair play, as Max shoves Bryce out of the way and then gets pushed into it himself by RUSH.
    • RUSH has MJF laid out after a headbutt. He drags him to the apron and kills him with a straitjacket piledriver. Both men are worse for wear following this; MJF previously had RUSH's left arm in Salt of the Earth, and it's clear the damage to his shoulder is catching up to him. RUSH uses the ring post to pop his shoulder back in and fires up to the crowd but quickly falls back to a knee. Bryce Remsburg and a medic check on him; the medic tells Justin Roberts that the match can't continue and he announces it as such. RUSH is now on his feet and spikes the microphone out of his hand before headbutting the medic who takes a crazy fucking neck bump off it. This match, evidently, is still on. RUSH throws a supine Friedman back into the ring and gives him the Horns but covers him way far into the corner and Max gets his hand on the rope.
    • RUSH goes for something with a double underhook on the apron but can't lift MJF, who powders to the corner of the ringside area. RUSH decides to try to dropkick him here, but Max ducks out of the way and RUSH kicks the entire barricade down and dies. Max proceeds to tombstone piledrive him onto the upturned barricade. Max's left knee is visibly bothering him.
    • RUSH, despite barely being able to move, has decided it is wise to climb up to the top turnbuckle. MJF sidesteps a shotgun dropkick from there, traps RUSH's injured left arm, and locks in a crossface. RUSH refuses to tap out, to the point where he shoots Max the bird from this hold, but there's no escape. He loses consciousness and Bryce calls for the bell.
  • Post-match, Max takes the belt and lines up RUSH to hit him with it. MARK BRISCOE runs down, though, and tries to hit a Jay Driller; Max slips out and kicks him in the balls. Now MJF wants to hit Mark with the belt, but the trios champs THE CONGLOMERATION are here joined by Tomohiro Ishii. MJF leaves.
  • After the break, Mark Briscoe's theme is STILL playing and I guess it turns out he's got a match right now. The Conglomeration, who are preparing to leave back up the entryway, freeze in place as LIO RUSH's music hits. Remember, he can't see you if you don't move. After he passes them, they start walking away but freeze again when Lio turns around. Once he finally heads towards the ring, all four of them sprint away.
    • Mark has absolutely no clue what to make of Lio, who is repeatedly whispering something into his ear after the bell. At the end of international feed time, Taz starts theorizing that maybe Lio ate some kind of mushrooms in the forest that caused this to happen to him.
  • Mark Briscoe wins with the Cutthroat Driver, and he has words for MJF after his match. He thinks back to the passing of his brother in January of 2023, and his debut match in AEW against Jay Lethal a week after. He says AEW was how he got his anger out after losing Jay, but deep down, he still couldn't find any joy until he found The Conglomeration.
    • Mark says that when he and MJF crossed paths, with every sentence Max spoke, the rage came back to the surface. He says he's never hated a man like he hates MJF, and reminds him of how he pinned him once he got his hands on him. When Max went away, he says, his mind was finally at ease again; when Max popped back up, all the rage came back, and now, Max has something Mark wants: the AEW World title. Mark says they are not the same; Max pitches a fit anytime he wants something until he gets it, but Mark says he's a grinder: he doesn't complain, he comes to work and does his job. Briscoe says he's calling out MJF's manhood, and if Max wants to say he's the best, he needs to prove it. "Max, 'Devil,' I don't know if you read the book--but you LOSE!"
  • THEKLA is here with SKYE BLUE and JULIA HART. She says that last week she promised that if even one person from Stardom came to AEW, she would burn Stardom to the ground. In Japan, she says, she used to be called the 'Idol Killer' because every 'kawaii' little girl made her sick so she had to take them all out. And then she got fired from Japan, so now she has to do it all over again. While Skye focuses on winning the Owen, and Julia looks to qualify for Survival of the Fittest to reclaim the TBS title, Thekla says she wants to close the Forbidden Door and declares death to all of Stardom. She then climbs a ladder that Skye and Julia have set up by the stage to hock up a loogie on the Stardom logo on the entrance screen.
  • The DEATH RIDERS are backstage. Danny is trying to hype up Will by reminding him that last time he faced Mark Davis, he wasn't at 100% and got dropped on his neck. JON MOXLEY walks up and tells Danny to fuck off.
    • "I know Mark Davis has been taking up space in your mind. That memory, those thoughts; now's the time to discard them forever. Right now. He's not a movie monster; he's Mark Davis. You know him, you've wrestled him, he's got two arms, two legs, you can beat him... and you're going to"..."This Will Ospreay, indestructible in mind and spirit, what you're becoming. Don Callis is gonna have to hire a truck driver to run you over with an 18-wheeler if he wants to beat you tonight. I don't like the temperature around here lately, all these groups and alliances and gang warfare, I don't like it. You don't worry about that. You've got one job tonight: pin his shoulders to the mat and break his arm. You stay on task. You beat Mark Davis. That's your job. Everything else... you let me worry about that. I'll take care of it."
  • Andrade has a mic after he kills a jobber. He says that now that MJF has the world title again, he really wants it. He says he knows MJF beat his friend RUSH, but asks if MJF thinks he can beat the real Latino man. How you know? DON CALLIS's brown note has now hit as Don comes out with JAKE SOMETHING. Andrade looks a bit taken aback and Don takes the mic. He has something important to say.
    • Don says the newest member of the Don Callis Family is KEVIN KNIGHT, who now comes out. Don is so excited that he spits his false teeth out. Don has acquired the TNT Champion, and with it, the title. Andrade looks frustrated. Kevin and Don embrace in the ring. SPEEDBALL MIKE BAILEY's music hits and it's time for this TNT title bout; Speedball is walking to the ring with a purpose.
  • Speedball late in this match hits Time Adventure on Kevin and sends him into the corner, but can't get him off the top when trying the Flamingo Driver. Instead he hits a rising gamengiri and starts climbing to the top. Jake Doyle gets on the other end of the apron to distract Rick Knox as Don pulls Speedball's leg and crotches him. Kevin hits a Sky High off the top before pulling Speedball in for the Rock Bottom to take the match home.
  • Kevin post-match says that he's in the Family for one reason only: to get straight to the top and become Jet 2 Belts. He says he's waiting on MJF.
  • Renee Paquette is backstage with DAVID FINLAY and CLARK CONNORS. Clark says last week they killed Cope & Cage and invented the New 5 Second Pose before beating the tar out of the Bang Bang Gang. They're tapping into their own personal Edge & Christian roots as David produces "5-Second Brews and 5-Second Kazoos."
    • The YOUNG BUCKS are here to crash the party. Nick Jackson says What The Dog Doin. Matt calls Finlay Bullet Club's worst leader ever and Clark "Temu Hangman." The Bucks feel that they're the rightful no. 1 contenders to the tag titles and says they brought their gear and are willing to fight it out tonight. Finlay says the true no. 1 contenders will wrestle when they feel like it.
  • Renee Paquette is backstage with MJF who is in the bath. She asks for comments on Mark Briscoe; MJF reiterates: "No Match For You, You Bumpkin." "For the last and final time: stop asking, cuz it ain't happening."
  • It's time for this Owen match, and to find out who the wild card is. Alex is out first. The wild card is, in fact, a returning MERCEDES MONÉ. The CEO has a brand new theme and is here in all black.
    • Mercedes gets Windsor hung up in the corner and drops her knees on Windsor's gut, driving her to the mat. The ensuing cover gets her a 2 count; Mercedes then sits in place, adjusting her hair, and says "I'm calm. I went to therapy. I'm good."
    • Mercedes taps Windsor out with the Statement Maker and leaves with the belt. I know she is the reigning champion but that title is very much not hers to keep.
  • Renee Paquette is backstage with Don Callis and KAZUCHIKA OKADA. Okada intends to take the International Championship back from Konosuke Takeshita.
  • TOMMASO CIAMPA is backstage pacing because Chris Jericho isn't here. Ciampa tells Jericho to stay home, but if he does choose to return, he will be waiting--unless he strikes first.
  • Mark Davis hits Close Your Eyes and Count to Fuck on Will Ospreay but raises his left arm, which he had previously planted on the mat, to shake it out while covering him. Will had been working over that arm shortly before this and was trying to lock in Death Ground. The release of pressure on Will's right shoulder allows him to shoot it off the mat at 2.
    • Ospreay hits the Styles Clash and Davis escapes the pinfall attempt. Will gets up and tries the OsCutter; Davis catches him and goes for a back drop driver, Will lands on his feet and takes a rear waistlock and Davis elbows him back. Davis now tries for an enzuigiri; Will ducks out of the way and Paul Turner gets clocked and fucking dies. Over the next six minutes we're off to the races.
    • Ospreay lays out Davis with the Hidden Blade and for some reason just decides to cover him even though he can tell Turner's dead on the floor. Davis doesn't get up. The Don Callis Family send in the heaters: TRENT BERETTA and EL CLON run in and attack Will. They're setting up for some kind of assisted Crunchie with Trent holding Will in place while El Clon climbs up to the top. Instead, Trent gets booted in the face by DANIEL GARCIA and Ospreay turns it into a sunset flip powerbomb. WHEELER YUTA throws El Clon off the top and Danny holds him in place while he hits a Busaiko Knee.
    • LANCE ARCHER runs in and double crossbodies the Dark Horses. He's then met with a springback European uppercut from CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI. The line keeps moving as BRIAN CAGE runs in with the pants and hits a TKO to lay out Claudio, and PAC hits a combination of kicks to ground Cage.
    • Davis tries a back drop suplex on PAC but he flips out of it and lands on his front before Will hits the OsCutter on Davis. Will motions to PAC to get Paul Turner in the ring; he does so and Turner starts the count, but JAKE SOMETHING almost immediately pulls him back out to the floor before killing PAC with an elbow.
    • Jake hits the Jake Something Press on Ospreay. He's waiting for Will to get back to his feet before MARINA SHAFIR leaps onto his back and locks in a sleeper hold. Jake grabs the back of her head and just whips her off him to the floor. She responds by spitting her gum at him. JON MOXLEY gets in the ring and they slug it out before Mox hits the Paradigm Shift on Jake; he and Marina Cactus Line Jake out of the ring. PAC does an Orihara moonsault onto everyone and they all fight up the entryway.
    • Will takes a double underhook on Davis. He wants something but he's not going to get it as KYLE FLETCHER is now in the ring and hits a half-and-half suplex on Ospreay before producing a screwdriver. He's doing a wake up taunt to Ospreay but gets pulled out of the ring by KONOSUKE TAKESHITA and they brawl out from ringside.
    • Fletcher dropped the screwdriver in the ring, and it's now in the hand of Davis. Mark intends to attack Will with it but Will hits a Hidden Blade to Davis's arm to release it before laying him out with a second one squarely between the eyes. Bryce Remsburg runs in to make the count, but somehow Davis is aware enough to kick out at 2.9.
    • Will wants a third Hidden Blade, this time to the back of Davis's head, but Mark drops down and ducks a round kick before dropping Will entirely on his shit with a second piledriver. Will, somehow, finds it in himself to kick out at 2.9. Mark wants his rebound lariat but Will floats over and successfully locks in the Death Ground armbar to tap out Davis.

DEVELOPMENTS

  • Ahead of the opening match, TOMMASO CIAMPA is here. He'll be on commentary through these first two matches and will later address his attack on Chris Jericho from Wednesday.
  • Before the opener, we go backstage where the Trios Champions THE CONGLOMERATION are standing by with KONOSUKE TAKESHITA. Roderick Strong asks Takeshita if he's good, and Takeshita thanks them for having his back on Wednesday. He addresses the Family, and says this is not over. Kyle tells him to let them worry about the Family so he can focus on Garcia and all four of them will remain champions. Orange hands Takeshita a backpack of his own.
  • Ahead of the opening match, TOMMASO CIAMPA is here. He'll be on commentary through these first two matches, and tells Tony and Nigel that he's on commentary because he expects Chris Jericho to try and enact revenge tonight. He doesn't want to allow that to happen backstage. Tony Schiavone tells him that Jericho actually isn't here tonight. Ciampa is mad that he came all the way to Huntsville.
  • Following TayJay's success at lasting the five-minute time limit against Divine Dominion, Ciampa has his townhall. He talks to Chris Jericho through the camera. He says he's going to address why he hates him; the crowd starts chanting "bald" at him and this makes him very mad. He produces a list of 1,004 reasons that he hates Jericho:
    • No. 1: Fozzy sucks. The crowd pops for this. No. 2: He hates Jericho's ring jackets. This is ironic considering the crazy ass jacket he's wearing right now.
    • No. 3: Ciampa hates the Jericho Cruise. No. 4: He hates Jericho's armbars. No. 5: He hates Jericho's full head of hair. The crowd again chants "bald" at this and Ciampa pitches a fit.
    • Ciampa says he's walked parallel to Jericho his entire career, and just because everyone else thinks Jericho's turned a new leaf, he knows better. "A snake is always a snake. Jericho, I'll see ya when I see ya." He goes to leave the ring and the camera focuses in on the list that's lying in the ring. Ciampa takes this opportunity to get back in and kick it around angrily like a baseball player kicking dirt.
  • PERSEPHONE is on commentary for this next match. She talks so calmly but the words that come out of her mouth are very dangerous. She's like the teacher in elementary school that you have who is legitimately terrifying when they get mad.
  • Nigel McGuinness is clearly hung up on the idea of beating Lee Moriarty for the ROH Men's Pure Championship. Shane Taylor on commentary basically tells him to shut up and fuck off.
  • Christyan XO grabs PAC's ankle from the floor then gets on the apron to start talking shit. This prompts Marina to get on the apron and just slowly walk toward her as she backs off up the ramp. Shawn promptly grabs PAC's ankle on the other side and pulls him to the floor and he and Carlie stomp him out. Mox is pissed to the point where he grabs a chair to back them off; Paul Turner is busy dealing with The Infantry so Shane Taylor comes over and knocks Mox's block off.
    • Mox and PAC start running a train on Shawn towards the end. Christyan XO's response to this is to get on the apron and try to distract Paul Turner. That ends up backfiring as instead Marina Shafir just gets in the ring and joins the train. Somehow Christyan doesn't even notice this and continues to argue with Turner.
  • Renee Paquette is backstage with the TRIANGLE OF MADNESS. Thekla won't let Renee get a word in, and says the only person in the Owen she's afraid of is Skye Blue. Skye tells her that she's been waiting for this chance, and she's going to take it. They start arguing and bowing up to each other before laughing and embracing. Mind games from the champion on the heels of another successful defense.
  • THE DOGS are here with more disposable cameras to do another 5-second pose. That is interrupted by the entrance of THE GUNNS.
  • JON MOXLEY is on commentary for the entire rest of the show, still in full gear with no shirt. Tony Schiavone tells him he just earned his 201st win in AEW; Moxley, as usual, is annoyed by the fact that people are keeping track of this.
  • Austin Gunn O'Connor rolls Clark Connors; the ensuing kickout sends Austin towards the rope, where he's met with a shillelagh swung by David Finlay. Stephon Smith doesn't see it, and he's out on his feet when Connors spears him to win the match. They try to continue to attack The Gunns but JUICE ROBINSON and ACE AUSTIN show up to make the save.
  • Following Willow Nightingale vacating the TBS Championship, Tony Schiavone tells us that over the coming weeks, there will be six head-to-head qualifying matches for AEW's first-ever Survival of the Fittest match to crowd a new TBS Champion.
  • After Jake and Brian kill some jobbers, KONOSUKE TAKESHITA's entrance hits as he comes out for his main event championship match. The entire crop of referees has to rush out to hold them back from attacking Takeshita, who holds the title up at the bottom of the ramp to taunt them.
  • Daniel Garcia spends most of the main event focusing on the left knee of Takeshita. At one point he starts doing push-ups on Takeshita's hurt leg instead of continuing to apply offense, which annoys Jon Moxley on commentary so much that he gives the headset to Marina so he can get up and go to ringside to yell at Danny to keep working the leg. Marina sits down and tells Tony, verbatim, "I'm just waiting for Daniel to put Takeshita's toe in his butthole." Takeshita gets Danny up for the Bastard Driver which elicits a frustrated "oh... my God, dude" from Marina. Danny then slips out and takes the left ankle of Takeshita. "In. The butt, dude," says Marina to this.
    • After Danny escapes the pinfall attempt from a Blue Thunder Bomb, Takeshita goes for the Power Drive knee, but his left leg buckles, and Danny curbstomps him.
    • This one's an instant classic, ending in Takeshita knocking Danny's block off with a forearm before hitting Raging Fire to win the match. Even Moxley is pleased despite his guy losing.
  • All five members of the DON CALLIS FAMILY we saw earlier tonight come back out to attack Takeshita after the match. Trent comes over to commentary to jaw with Mox, prompting him to take the headset off and confront him before he, Danny, and Marina are suddenly jumped by SHANE TAYLOR PROMOTIONSPAC and WHEELER YUTA sprint down to ringside through the crowd to provide reinforcements as SPEEDBALL MIKE BAILEY's theme hits. Bailey races down the ramp to the ring, joined by the trios champions RODERICK STRONG, KYLE O'REILLY, and ORANGE CASSIDY to provide backup for Takeshita.
    • Lee Moriarty throws Wheeler Yuta onto the announce desk before he and Carlie Bravo start taunting Nigel McGuinness. Nigel eventually decides he's had enough and lays out Bravo; Lee has to wrestle him back, and then Carlie separates Lee and Nigel. Danny comes over and starts attacking Lee.
    • The Death Riders, Conglomeration, Speedball, and Takeshita are able to fend off STP and the Family. It seems that there's a shaky but mutual respect between the Death Riders and the others.
