DEVELOPMENTS
- Tony Schiavone opens the show by proclaiming that it is "AEW DYNAMITE!" I did not watch this show live.
- After Dynamite, JON MOXLEY is backstage with the rest of the DEATH RIDERS to address Kyle O'Reilly. He says that every time he steps into the ring with him, he can't find a way to win. "It's been failure, after failure, after failure. Kyle O'Reilly has tapped me out... twice. Ipso facto, Kyle O'Reilly will be the new Continental Champion, you might think. But the Jon Moxley of 6 months ago is not the same as the Jon Moxley of today. Who I will be tomorrow is who I am today." Mox says he'll do what he's done to survive in this business for 22 years--he's going to find a way
- While this is very much in line with his messaging since he won the Continental Classic, it's also sounding very similar to the messaging of one Kris Statlander when she last held the Women's World Championship. Just saying they might have more in common than she thinks.
- CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI faces Brody King in the first round of the Owen, and he says that Brody always brings the bark, but when they get in the ring together, he needs to bring the bite.
- Orange Cassidy goes up top here to target the Infantry but gets cut off by Lee Moriarty. Kyle and Mark take exception to this and go argue with Brandon Martinez at ringside which allows Shane Taylor to drop a leg on Orange on the apron to send the match to break.
- Lee gets Orange into an abdominal stretch. Martinez becomes preoccupied once more with O'Reilly and Briscoe in the corner so Moriarty grabs Dean's hand on the apron for leverage... who grabs Bravo's hand on the floor... who grabs Taylor's hand at the desk. Eventually Martinez turns around and Lee lets go of Shawn, which causes Shawn and Carlie to eat shit on the floor. Orange hip tosses Lee out of the stretch and makes the hot tag to Kyle.
- Briscoe, after getting the hot tag and sending everyone to the floor, sets up a chair to vault off in the ring. Shane Taylor cuts him off by getting on the apron to argue so Orange, who's had enough of his shit, Orange Punches him and Kyle takes him out with a knee off the apron.
- After wiping everyone out with the step-up Sensational Flip Dive to the floor, The Conglomeration roll Shawn back into the ring, where Mark hits the Froggy Bow and Jay Driller to win the opening match.
- After Dynamite, we hear from WILL OSPREAY, who apologizes to Samoa Joe for not replying to any of his messages. "Six months of my life got taken away from me, mate. Six months, I've been sitting in front of a TV screen, watching AEW, looking at it, trying to get my strength back in my arms, rushing to get it back. That's six months, six months frustration, six months of anger, and then I finally have my killshot at Dynasty... and I lost." Will's annoyed that he didn't get revenge on Mox, but he's more upset, he says, at the idea that he can't be the guy that AEW put their trust in.
- He says nothing he says will ever make people understand why he's associated with Moxley lately--"but Jon Moxley... he's the ace. He's a soldier for this place, and while his methods might be sick, the people that stand up to him get elevated. So what could happen with him in my corner?" Will says he respects Joe, but nobody is stopping his path on the way to winning the Owen. "And I find it poetic that the man who took away my old life has given me a second chance."
- Lexy Nair backstage with THE CONGLOMERATION--the winning team from the opener and Willow Nightingale, who defends her TBS title next. Kyle says that Mox is right when he says that he's got his number, but he's ready for another test. Mark says he hasn't heard a word from Ciampa, and Willow restates that she's making a run for the world title after she wins the Owen.
- We get a brief video package trying to convince me to give a fuck about SAMMY GUEVARA and now he's here backstage with Lexy Nair. He says he's beaten Darby four times, and he's a three-time TNT Champion while Darby's only held it twice. He says when he wins the world title, he's still facing MJF at Double or Nothing and keeping that hair vs. title stipulation.
- We go to break, and when we come back, Lexy's now in the stairwell with Sammy's opponent, DARBY ALLIN. She reminds him he's had 5 title defenses in 21 days, and tonight will be his sixth. Darby says when he showed up to the venue, he asked where MJF was before realizing it was a stupid question because MJF isn't a company guy and wouldn't show up to Collision. He says he was asked why he'd risk losing his world title before Double or Nothing and simply says he loves the thrill of it. Darby tells Speedball that if he walks out still the champion tonight, he's got his match on Wednesday.
- TOMMASO CIAMPA is now in Gorilla killing MARK BRISCOE. They fight out onto the stage and over to ringside. That ends up going pretty badly for Ciampa, because Briscoe ends up taking over and whoops his fucking ass all over ringside. He goes to hit a Jay Driller in the ring onto two chairs but Ciampa slips out and low blows him before hitting him with a chair and choking him in the corner. He tries to go for a repeat of his Psycho Driller onto two set-up chairs but KYLE O'REILLY and ORANGE CASSIDY make the save. Mark grabs a mic and says he wants to remove disqualifications from their match on Wednesday. Ciampa says no way but he was the instigator so he might not have a choice.
- ANTHONY BOWENS cuts a really confusing promo after his tag match with Samoa Joe. He's saying heel things but he's not saying them in a particularly heelish way so the crowd doesn't know if they're supposed to like him or not. He says he's "our hero" and "deserves a standing ovation" and the crowd GIVES HIM ONE. He did almost nothing different that match but he still credits SAMOA JOE with assisting in his "change in attitude." Joe did not recruit him.
- Joe takes the microphone and addresses Will Ospreay. "I am truly and beyond honored that you consider facing me a 'dream match'... it's just so very unfortunate that when I get you in the ring, it's gonna be nothing but a nightmare."
- After taking out Bandido last night at Supercard of Honor, SWERVE STRICKLAND has a video package that reinforces his motto of "by any means necessary." Lexy Nair is now backstage with BRODY KING and BANDIDO. She reminds each of them that if they win their first round matches in the Owen, they'll face each other in the semifinal, before moving onto what happened last night.
- Brody says he warned Swerve what would happen when he messes with the people he cares about and starts to threaten Swerve but Bandido cuts him off. "Hermano, I really love you, but this is my battle, and I need you to respect that. Please. Swerve! This battle, you will not win. You may be the most dangerous, but I am the Most Wanted! And at Double or Nothing, after I beat you, you won't be a danger to anyone anymore."
- Lexy Nair backstage with ATHENA and MINA SHIRAKAWA who face off in the opening round of the Owen. We're reminded that Athena has been a thorn in Mina's side before--she broke Mina's hand hitting the O-Face at All In Texas to win the Women's Casino Gauntlet, and beat her to retain the ROH title at Death Before Dishonor. Mina says when she locked in her figure 4 leglock on Zero Hour, she dreamed it was Athena she was doing it too. Athena says she's flattered that Mina's dreaming of her and that she's dreaming of Mina's dead body in a ditch next to Toni Storm's. Mina says she's not doing any more dreaming because now she's going to live it.
- We get a brief look back at Action Andretti turning on LIO RUSH from Supercard of Honor which leads into a pretape from earlier today, with NIGEL McGUINNESS trying to get a word with Lio backstage. Lio's chilling on a roadie box in one of his own shirts and shades holding a paper cup. He says it's good to see Nigel and that he did really great last night.
- Nigel asks Lio about what happened with Andretti last night. Lio says it's fine! "These things happen, Nigel. Losses happen. Friends get upset! It's fine! It's fine. It's fine." Nigel leaves and Lio takes a drink from his cup before taking off his shades. The irises of his eyes are red as black liquid spills from his mouth as he repeats the words "it's fine." Nigel on commentary says it doesn't look fine to him.
- ANNA JAY backstage with Lexy Nair. She reunites with TAY MELO, and they're back together as a tag team.
- Sammy Guevara is just setting up spots during his entrance. He gets a couple of tables out and a ladder. He also curbstomps Darby in the ring during his entrance to hot start the match and then celebrates with the title.
- Sammy is beating Darby's ass on the ramp and stage at the start of this match culminating in hitting a senton atómico off a ladder through a table.
- Sammy goes for a GTS but Darby counters into the Scorpion Death Lock but passes out from exhaustion. Paul Turner has to hold Sammy back from continuing to attack; he eventually hits a springboard splash for a 2. Darby goes up for a Coffin Drop but Sammy cuts him off and shitcans him to the floor. Darby's still staggered badly.
- This match is largely a spotfest with Darby selling exhaustion over the course of it and having to overcome it. Sammy hits a Spanish Fly off the top but lands on his knee wrong and struggles with that for the rest of the match.
- Sammy hits two GTSes with a lowered kneepad and a frog splash off the top and Darby still kicks out, in case you were worried that we might be starting to take Sammy Guevara a little too seriously. Sammy sets Darby up on a table by ringside and goes for a 630 senton but crashes and burns when Darby moves. All it takes is a Coffin Drop back in the ring to retain.
