DEVELOPMENTS

  • TNT title match on tap to start this show and we get championship introductions in the ring--why do we not get this for other title matches? Especially women's world title matches?
    • Kevin's selling his left knee quite a lot in this opener after spamming several dives in the early goings. MJF is targeting it accordingly.
    • Kevin hits the UFO off the top but takes too long to crawl to the cover and makes a single-arm cover. MJF is able to escape.
    • MJF tries to make several covers off an Alabama Slam; the last time, Kevin kicks out at one. He's not done.
    • MJF now goes to the timekeeper's area and grabs the TNT title in full view of Bryce Remsburg. Remsburg takes the belt and hands it off to ringside; obviously, this is a diversion for MJF to go for the ring punch, but Kevin instead low blows him and rolls him up for the 3 count. MJF is bewildered, but gets up and chop blocks Kevin's bad knee. MJF is looming large over Kevin, but DARBY ALLIN descends from the rafters and hits MJF with the Scorpion Death Drop.
    • "You people suck! Darby, real typical--two peas in a pod, two lowlife cheaters getting along, huh? Jokes on you--I don't give a damn about Kevin Knight. That match doesn't even count--I was barely trying! The only thing I care about is MY Triple B." MJF wants a rematch for the world title, but he's still not put anything on the line. Darby says if he survives tonight, he's giving KEVIN a shot next week.
    • BRODY KING is now here. He gets nose to nose with MJF on the ramp before heading down to the ring. MJF is pissed. Brody says Darby's not going to survive tonight with the belt, but will honor Kevin's claim to a title shot next week if he wins.
  • Renee Paquette backstage with ADAM COPELAND and CHRISTIAN CAGE. Christian's got a fractured arm, but he says he's fine and that they accept the "I Quit" stipulation. Adam remarks that it was a quick acceptance given his history with that stipulation in AEW; Christian is firm that he never said it during their match.
  • SKYE BLUE and THEKLA are backstage. Thekla says she would love to stop calling people "dumb bitches" but there's just too many of them in AEW. Thekla's beaten both Windsor and Hayter individually now, and she tells the Birds to stick to their tag team.
  • Don Callis and MARK DAVIS take a few cheap shots on Ace Austin after the International title match but JUICE ROBINSON makes the save and they stop. KONOSUKE TAKESHITA comes out on stage and does the belt around the waist taunt and points to the Double or Nothing logo.
  • We get a video package showing a bunch of people fleeing a saloon. There's a "WANTED" poster featuring BANDIDO and a $100,000 reward. As the last guy thrown out of the saloon flees, the camera pans up to SWERVE STRICKLAND picking up one of the posters. PRINCE NANA hands him a digital camera and he snaps a picture of it.
  • The DEATH RIDERS are backstage. Daniel Garcia is telling us that this is how they train as Marina Shafir chokes out Wheeler Yuta on the ground. WILL OSPREAY, in a long-sleeve white shirt that's as tight as possible such as to accentuate his supple breasts, walks in. Mox is thrilled about this, and asks Will if he got cleared.
    • Will shakes his head no, but says he's going over to Japan anyway; the United Empire have a big title match coming up, and he's not letting them down. Moxley says "loyalty... you are too good to be true," then turns around and just pokes PAC in the stomach and makes a noise for some reason. PAC recoils at this.
    • Moxley tells Will that he needs him to drop everything. Everything in his brain that clouds his vision, everything in his heart that tugs at his heartstrings, all the anger that burns a hole in his stomach, any excess baggage he's holding onto. Most of all, he wants Will to drop his feelings about Mox. "I make no promises, I don't produce miracles, but when I make a commitment to something, I see it through all the way to the end. All I ask is the same in return."
    • Ospreay says "okay," Moxley is pleased, and Will and PAC stare at each other for a moment. Will asks where the ring is. Moxley says they don't train using a ring.
  • FTR are here to watch Cage & Cope ringside. Stokely is on commentary.
    • Midway through this match, Stokely is celebrating a downed Christian when we see the AEW World Trios Champions THE CONGLOMERATION appear behind him in the crowd. Stokely takes a swing at Orange, who ducks and hits him over the top of the head with his popcorn. The brawl is on, with the Conglomeration fighting out of the arena with FTR. Rick Knox has no clue what to make of this.
    • Christian leaves the ring post-match and grabs a chair. It appears he wants revenge on Trent Beretta. He breaks the crossbar off the chair and hands it to Copeland, who puts Trent in a crossface. Christian holds the microphone up to Trent, who immediately says "I quit." Christian tells him he would never say that.
    • Christian grabs one of the tag title belts and parades around ringside with it. This pisses Rick Knox off really bad and he repossesses it. In the meantime, Adam has put Orange's popcorn bucket on his head and is now doing the same thing with the other tag title. Rick takes that title back, too, and Adam responds by chasing him to the announce desk before he leaves. We're just doing shit tonight.
  • Renee Paquette backstage earlier tonight with JERICHO. She asks if he thinks there's any validity to Ricochet's claim that the Rico-sault is superior to the Lionsault. Before he can finish answering, THE DEMAND jump him. Ricochet says he warned him that he needed to leave before he got himself hurt. Jericho says "eat shit" and GOA throw him into the side of a crate before feigning a makeshift "Rico-sault" over Jericho and saying he's "not even worth it."
  • Shida goes to use her kendo stick early in this tag title match. Stat, not willing to get her team disqualified, seizes it from her. This pisses Shida off. With Megan Bayne hung up in the corner, Shida responds by gut kicking her tag partner and suplexing her into Megan. I'm beginning to think maybe they can't coexist.
  • Renee Paquette backstage with Don Callis and ANDRADE EL ÍDOLOMJF interrupts her, though, and says that Andrade has ruined this company. It's Andrade's fault, he says, that Darby Allin is on a reign of terror. Andrade is now responding to everything MJF says with "how you know?" and this tilts MJF badly. They get into a brief shoving match before Don comes between them. He says business is business; Max doesn't have a belt right now so Andrade doesn't need to fight him, and Max needs to get the title back.
  • Renee Paquette backstage with THE OPPS. She asks Joe what the gameplan is moving forward. Joe says they intend to reassert their dominance over AEW, and that we're going to see the best version of Bowens going forward.
    • He also namedrops Will Ospreay as the prime target of their "strategic acquisition"--"You see, Will, I hope and I pray that you're not suffering from Stockholm syndrome, because those boys in the Death Riders, they had you in the very same position that they saved you from not too long ago, and you know who came and took you out of that? We did, Will. We had your back. So you have to ask yourself: what kind of relationship do you want? Do you want one of convenience, or one of confidence? Because The Opps are here, and the choice is yours."
  • FTR backstage. Stokely next week proposes a Double Jeopardy match next week: Orange Cassidy vs. Dax Harwood, winner gets a shot at the other's multi-man title. He brings in TOMMASO CIAMPA as their third for a trios title shot.
  • Brody's clearing off the announce desk; he takes the cover and leans it against the barricade. We see KEVIN KNIGHT watching from the crowd. Darby jumps on Brody's back and locks in a sleeper hold, so Brody responds by throwing his entire body into the announce desk cover and snapping it in half. MJF is also watching backstage.
    • Both Brody and Darby are now on top of the announce desk. Brody gets a sleeper locked in on the edge of the desk but Darby goes to the eyes to escape. Darby proceeds to jump back up and hit the Code Red on top of the desk. He goes tope suicida not long afterward.
    • Darby escapes from two really meaty lariats after eating a cannonball in the tree of woe.
    • Darby has Brody in the corner; he throws a few chops and headbutts him. He very quickly realizes that was a bad idea because Brody proceeds to biel him over the top directly into a cameraman. Brody then drags Darby across ringside as Darby claws onto the pads, pulling them up and exposing the concrete. He feeds to the railing after escaping the grasp of King, but manages to duck out of the way just before Brody obliterates the railing with another Cannonball.
    • With the concrete floor exposed, Brody climbs up to the apron where Darby bites his hand--Paul Turner does not seem to care about this--but Brody gets him up for a suplex to the floor. Darby fights out, slips through his legs, and powerbombs him onto the concrete. He proceeds to hit a Coffin Drop off the second onto Brody.
    • Brody gets back in at 9, but there's no time for him to get to his feet, and he's met with two more Coffin Drops as Darby secures the pin to retain. Kevin Knight will face him on Dynamite next week, but he's still got to defend his TNT title on Saturday. Brody and Darby shake hands before Brody leaves the ring.
